Awareness Message – Bus Drivers
Leave a CommentSpread the word! We need change!
Workplace violence includes both words or gestures. It includes verbal, psychological and physical assault.
Violence in the workplace is a serious issue and affects personnel in all professional sectors. Some workers are more likely to experience this type of violence because their duties involve a number of risk factors.
According to a survey conducted by the VISAGE research team,
- 80% of bus drivers have experienced or witnessed violence at work (86% women/76% men);
- 98% of that number have been affected by an act of serious violence (100% women/96% men).
However,
- 24% believe they would be judged by their peers if they complained (31% women/19% men);
- 52% believe they would be judged by their employer if they complained (59% women/47% men);
- 27% think it is pointless to talk about violence at work unless someone has an obvious injury (33% women/23% men);
- 60% do not know the policies and procedures in place to obtain support after experiencing violence (62% women/58% men).
Feel free to talk to your colleagues and loved ones about any act of verbal, psychological or physical violence that you experience at work and report it to your employer.
